James Galyon

Biography

James Galyon serves in the United States Air Force, endorsed by the Associated Gospel Churches on behalf of RBNet.  Like all military chaplains, he conducts religious worship and ceremonies; provides religious education, pastoral care, and counseling; and advises leaders at all levels on the mission impact of issues related to religion, religious accommodation, ethics, morals, and the spiritual, mental, and social domains of combat readiness.

Since receiving a direct commission into the Chaplain Corps, James’ duties have included directing the base suicide intervention program at Dyess AFB, TX; leading the spiritual and mental readiness component for the Preservation of the Force and Families Task Force of the 1st Special Operations Wing at Hurlburt Field, FL; providing the sole religious support for the Department of Defense, NATO, and Embassy entities in Ankara, Türkiye; directing religious support operations as the Joint Task Force-Bravo Command Chaplain at Soto Cano AB in Honduras; and leading a 21-member team in the execution of religious support operations at the Air Force’s most forward-deployed permanent base – Osan AB, Republic of Korea – as the Wing Chaplain of the 51st Fighter Wing.  He serves currently as the Deputy Commandant of the Air Force Chaplain Corps College at Maxwell AFB, AL, directing operations of that institution’s elite 25-member faculty in optimizing Total Force integration training for over 2,300 Chaplains and Religious Affairs Airmen.

James earned a Bachelor of Arts in Religion from Missouri Baptist University, a Master of Arts in Theology from Tyndale Theological Seminary, a Master of Science in Counseling Psychology from Texas A&M University–Central Texas, and both the Master of Divinity and Doctor of Philosophy from Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary.  He and his wife, Sharon, have three grown children – Jenna, Jameson, and Jonathan. Sharon is an active member of the Daughters of the American Revolution (DAR) and a Minhwa artist.  James and Sharon enjoy hiking together.  Sharon, originally from Florida, prefers to spend as much time at the beach as possible while James enjoys reading, writing, and riding a motorcycle.  They are members of the Miller Valley Baptist Church in Prescott, Arizona.
