Chaplain James Galyon serves in the United States Air Force. He provides pastoral care and counseling; advises leaders at all levels regarding mental and spiritual readiness, ethics, morale, and religious accommodation; conducts religious worship, liturgies and ceremonies; provides moral and religious education; and develops and implements proactive resiliency programs.
Since receiving a direct commission into the Chaplain Corps, his duties have included directing the base suicide intervention program at Dyess AFB; leading the spiritual and mental readiness component for the Preservation of the Force and Families Task Force for the 1st Special Operations Wing; providing the sole religious support for the Department of Defense, NATO, and Embassy entities in Ankara, and Istanbul, Turkey; and serving as the Joint Task Force-Bravo Command Chaplain in Honduras.
James earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in Religion from Missouri Baptist University, a Master of Arts diploma in Theology from Tyndale Theological Seminary, a Master of Science in Counseling Psychology from Texas A&M University–Central Texas, and a Master of Divinity and a Doctor of Philosophy from Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary.
James and his wife, Sharon, have three grown children – Jenna, Jameson and Jonathan. Sharon is an active member of the Daughters of the American Revolution (DAR), and serves as the local chapter’s chaplain. James and Sharon enjoy walking and hiking together, and are both interested in genealogy. Sharon prefers to spend as much time at the beach as possible, while James enjoys riding a motorcycle, shooting, and reading. James and Sharon are members of the Miller Valley Baptist Church in Prescott, Arizona.
